It seems that things are only going to get better and better in Manchester. While the city already holds a spot in the hearts of its many residents, there are several big changes on the horizon that could completely transform the area. It seems that there’s always room for improvement and with that in mind, here are three great ways that Manchester began to transform in 2017.
It’s fair to say that Piccadilly Gardens is currently somewhat of a divisive space in Manchester – but this line of thinking looks like it could soon come to an end. The spot of grass – located in the heart of the city – is the subject of a planning application that could see massive improvements made to it. This includes new lighting, more trees and the demolition of the controversial wall. City centre spokesman Pat Karney said: “This is the best news for Piccadilly Gardens since it was redesigned over a decade ago.”
Earlier this year, the city’s Town Hall shut its doors – much to the dismay of residents living in Manchester. However, the closure is only temporary as the historic building is currently undergoing a huge £330m restoration. It seems likely that the picturesque landmark could be more beautiful than ever when it once again opens to the public in just a few short years.
Manchester’s skyline was changed forever upon the completion of Beetham Tower in 2006. Now, the 47-floor structure is soon to have company up in the clouds when football legend Gary Neville builds his own rival skyscraper just a stone’s throw away. The proposed building – a 39-storey glass tower that will comprise both luxury apartments and a hotel – is finally close to being fully approved. It’s expected that work will kick-start in early 2018. Once it’s finished, the skyline is sure to look even more impressive than it already does.
Change is coming…
