In the last 3-months Storage World have made significant long-term investments in LED Lighting upgrades at both our Manchester Central and Middleton stores. We have removed over 1,350 old generation light fittings and installed nearly 1,000 LED long-life units in replacement. The works have been extensive and applied to all corridors, communal areas, and staff facilities, as well as the larger self-storage units.
The benefits of the work include a much-improved level of lighting, day and night, greater efficiencies, and far less ongoing maintenance. The feel of the illumination is much more appealing and helps to enhance the environment we have created. All lighting is controlled by motion sensors, this dramatically reduces the time lights are in use, whilst always ensuring our customers have a lit path when they require.
The combination of these factors is hoped to generate at least a 15% reduction in our electricity usage. We will repost a blog next year when we have been able to better calculate and of course the CO2 reduction levels, however they are expected to be meaningful.
We will be making several further adjustments in the coming weeks and months. 2020 is a time for change and holding ourselves accountable to doing all the things we promised we would. We will post details along the way in our blog.
