Whether you prefer to marvel at historic sites or breathe in the fresh air while strolling the country, you’re sure to find the perfect spot for a Manchester getaway. We’ve put together a few of our favourites to kickstart your research.

England’s Lake District

England’s Lake District is a short 90-minute drive north of Manchester and boasts outstanding natural beauty. As one of the most picturesque areas in the nation, a trip to the area will leave you feeling inspired. While you’re there, make sure that you enjoy a cruise on Lake Windermere!

Altrincham

Altrincham is a charming town whose history extends as far back as 1290 and includes various attractions such as Stamford Park and Dunham Massey Hall. The old market town is south of the River Mersey and a short trip from Manchester Central, making it a fantastic spot to enjoy a change of scenery.

York

Hop onto the train and take an hour’s ride to the stunning area of York. The quaint city is filled with charming shops and galleries that mimic mediaeval times, taking you back in time. If you’re looking for a weekend break or an overnight getaway, then York is a great option!

Ashton-Under-Lyne

Travelling nine kilometres east of Manchester will find yourself in Ashton-Under-Lyne, a majestic old town with several attractions. From one of Midland’s oldest churches to the Museum of the Manchester Regiment, there are plenty of interesting activities to keep you entertained.

Styal

The tiny village of Styal is located near Wilmslow and is home to Quarry Bank Mill, Europe’s largest working textile museum. The area is filled with many historic buildings and shops, with a choice of adorable cottages to spend the night in.

With so many charming areas around Manchester to explore, we won’t be surprised if you choose to invest in a holiday home. At Storage World, we have three conveniently located self storage facilities to keep your household belongings and seasonal items as you move between locations.
