There are many reasons you may be looking to make use of self storage – it’s an extremely affordable way to store any excess assets, whether these are personal or business items. But what do you need to look for when seeking the right storage provider for you and your needs? You may think ‘a storage unit is just a storage unit’ and not really give much thought to the provider and the amenities they offer, however, there are many factors to consider.

We understand that looking for a storage provider can be a little daunting when there are so many option out there. As a five-star self storage provider, we’ve put together the top 5 things to consider when finding a storage solution.

Location

Location is a very important aspect to consider as you may wish to avoid having to travel too far to access your stored assets. Even if you’re going to be utilising self storage for a long-term period, it’s likely that you will want to be able to get to your unit quickly and easily should you need to.

We advise choosing a storage unit within a 5-mile distance of your home or workplace. This ensures that you have local access to anything stored, is convenient, and can also provide peace of mind in knowing that you can access, add to or remove your stored items whenever you feel necessary.

If you’re based in the Manchester area and are looking for a self-storage provider, then you’ve come to the right place. Visit our locations page to see which of our Greater-Manchester based locations could best serve your storage needs.

Accessibility

Accessibility is another factor to consider. It’s all well and good having a storage unit close to your home, but if the facility has restrictive opening times, then it could make it difficult for you to gain access to your items. We understand that not everybody’s world is Monday to Friday, 9 to 5, so at Storage World we’re open seven days a week, with the option to gain out of hours access if essential to ensure you have the ability to visit your unit whenever you need it.

Not only do you need to be able to access your unit as and when required, but you also need to be able to gain access by whatever means of transport you use – so bear this in mind when selecting a storage company.

At Storage World, we have over 100 free-to-park car parking spaces on site to ensure you can always gain easy access to your unit. We also provide moving services to help you get your items safely into your unit should you need help with this.

Size

Of course the size you need will depend on what you need to store. Most storage providers will offer a range of unit sizes and it’s important to determine which size is the best for you. Consider how long you will be using self storage and whether you will be adding to it over time. At Storage World, it’s easy to upgrade to a larger storage unit should you need to expand the items you keep.

If you’re not sure which size unit will be best for your initial needs, you can check out our handy size guide to help you choose the right size for you. Better still, call one of our team of experts. A member of our team will quickly be able to match you to the right size of storage unit based on your needs, so calling our team (tel:08003100450) is the fastest way to get the very best quote for you.

Security

When you’re storing your personal or business belongings away from your own property, you need assurance that the security of the storage units is up to scratch. This may be even more important should you wish to store high-value items. When visiting a storage provider for the first time, look out for active CCTV, on-site security personnel, the lock and access of the units and any alarm systems.

At Storage World, we have all of the above security measures in place, as well as providing insurance on your stored items so you can rest assured that even in the extremely rare circumstance that something happens to your unit, you’re covered. We also only provide access to you or anyone your register with us as authorised. While we will hold a key to gain entry to the unit for emergencies, like you lose your key, no Storage World staff will access your unit without your prior permission.

All of our units have been developed specifically for long-term self storage and are inspected in accordance with the Self Storage Association guidelines. Our store standards are reviewed twice daily and we prohibit the storage of any items that could cause mess, damage or disruption to any of our facilities. Your storage unit will be kept clean, dry and completely secure at all times.

Budget

Self storage is an affordable way to keep and protect any assets that you cannot store within your home or workspace, and the cost will depend on the size of the unit you require and the value of the items that will be kept inside of it. At Storage World, our smallest units start from just £10 per week. You can easily transfer between units if your storage needs change and this may increase or decrease the amount you will pay.

Our top tip here is to call our team of experts for a quote. When using other storage providers, they may simply let you select the wrong size of storage for your needs – meaning you end up paying more than you have to. Our team are trained, self-storage experts – and simply by finding out your needs can match you to exactly the right size of storage space – saving you both time and money.
