Warehouse Storage Costs

Although renting a storage space is simple, working out whether or not you can afford it can be a bit confusing. Warehouse storage can be rented over a long or short-term period and usually involves monthly payments which will be determined by answers to the following three questions:

  • How much space does my business need?
  • How long does my business need storage for?
  • Which facility is more convenient for my business?

Before you can request a quote, you’ll first need to find out how much space you’ll need. If you’re a small business with a few pallets of stock, this is fairly easy, but if you are a large company with rows of inventory, you can measure the square footage of your inventory by following these simple steps:

  1. Stack all stock side by side as you would store it
  2. Measure the height, width and length of the stack
  3. Multiply the length of the stack by the width to determine the square footage

Lastly, provide our team with the total square footage, length of stay and the facility you’d like to store with. With this information, they’ll be able to send you an accurate quote of the total warehouse cost per month.

There are no additional rental charges at Storage World, however, we do request that our customers insure their goods. We work with you to establish the new for old replacement value of your goods, ensuring you have adequate protection. Your Storage Adviser will assist you in producing an inventory and liaising with you periodically in the event the items you are storing change.

A Smart Solution To Warehousing

When you think of business storage, warehouses are usually the first thing that comes to mind. However, as businesses evolve, so are the places they use for storage. Today, self storage units are becoming a popular storage solution for businesses of all sizes, but what is the difference between a storage unit and a warehouse?

Traditionally, warehouses are larger than storage units with higher ceilings and wider spaces designed for storing big and bulky items such as:

  • Equipment
  • Palletised goods
  • Inventory

Self storage has become a popular way for businesses of all sizes to store inventory, supplies, equipment, documents and merchandise. Whether you need a mini warehousing solution for your small start-up or a bulk storage space for your growing e-commerce business, our warehouse rentals offer a range of ideal options.

  • Convenient and cost-effective solution to commercial warehousing
  • Secure and professional operational base
  • Wide variety of spacious warehousing options
  • Flexible lease agreements and short notice periods
  • Freedom to upsize or downsize as needed
  • Access to your unit, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
  • Competitive prices

Businesses that typically use warehouse storage include:

  • E-commerce businesses ‘
  • Courier and logistics
  • Clothing businesses
  • High street retailers

  • Local authorities
  • Last-mile fulfilment companies

Live or Sleep in Your Warehouse

The simple answer is no, you cannot sleep, live or host a music festival in your warehouse. While dry, clean and well-maintained, warehouses are not habitable spaces. They are designed to store objects only and don’t often have running water, kitchen facilities, adequate ventilation or ablution facilities.

What can you use a warehouse for?

Warehouses are very useful and versatile spaces. With a wide variety of unit sizes and purpose-built facilities, businesses can use a warehouse to:

  • Safely store large amounts of stock
  • Manage and organise inventory
  • Sort and arrange last-mile deliveries
  • Conduct sub-assembly work for clients
  • Store office furniture or equipment

What can’t you use a warehouse for?

Apart from using it as living quarters, warehouses cannot be used for any illegal activities or to store potentially hazardous items such as:

  • Flammable and combustible items such as gasoline, fireworks, propane oil, grease, and paint
  • Toxic materials such as chemicals, cleaning products, fertiliser etc.
  • Living animals, people and plants
  • Perishables or food that needs to be refrigerated
  • Weapons or explosives
  • Stolen goods or illegal substances
  • Wet items
