  • What is Self Storage?

    There are a number of different types of storage (see explanation page) however Self-Storage is the most modern and versatile. Our facilities are converted into a series of individual units – much like a hotel.

  • How does Self Storage work?

    Individuals or Businesses rent an individual unit/s that only they have access to as the unit is secured by their own padlock, n which they store goods, stock, equipment or furniture. Units are of varying sizes, selected based on the extent of items the customer is storing – we assist the customer to select the most appropriate. If new to storage we find customers often overestimate. So seeking the guidance of a Storage World adviser often saves our customers money.

  • What happens if I lose my padlock key or forget the combination code?

    Providing we can verify your identity, Storage World is able to cut off your lock to provide you immediate access. You will be required to secure your unit with a new padlock before departing.

  • How much does Self Storage cost?

    Our smallest units start at £10 per week and increase in cost as the size of the unit increases. One thing to keep in mind is that as your needs change, you can transfer between units, which will increase or decrease the amount you pay.

  • What is the length of contract or notice to vacate required?

    All agreements are open-ended. We simply have a notice to vacate process. Self-Storage customers are required to provide us with two weeks notice of their planned vacation date.

  • How long can I store for in a Self-Storage unit?

    Simply, as long as you want. Customers typically store for 6-months or longer, but some as short as 1-month. All we ask is that you provide two weeks notice when you plan to vacate.

  • What size units are available?

    We have a large number of different sizes available. The smallest are lockers that measure 5sqft. More typically 25sqft to 200sqft with heights of between 8 and 12ft. These units are suitable for all manner of domestic and business use.

  • Can I change the size of my Storage Unit?

    Yes of course, providing we have availability of the size code you require, this can be same day. Many customers either start small and grow, or start with a larger unit and reduce as they remove items. When moving home, people often store all their belongings and then retain a smaller unit for low use items such as luggage, Christmas decoration, seasonal items like BBQ’s or sports equipment – mainly so their new home is clutter free.

  • What can I store?

    Customers can store anything they like, with specific exclusions such as firearms, chemicals, anything combustible, illegal substances, illegally obtained items or anything living or perishable. If in doubt, speak with a Storage World Adviser.

  • Do I need to pre-book a storage unit?

    It is advisable to reserve a unit ahead of your planned move-in date. Securing the unit is easy, establish the best room and rate for you and pay a £20 reservation which is fully refundable if you don’t move in, or deducted from your move in invoice when you do.

  • Are there any other charges?

    There are no additional rental charges. However, your goods must be fully insured. We work with you to establish the new for old replacement value of your goods, ensuring you have adequate protection. Your Storage Adviser will assist you in producing an inventory and liaising with you periodically in the event the items you are storing change. It is essential that all customers have adequate cover in place. The Storage World cover is underwritten by Royal & Sun Alliance and designed specifically for the Self-Storage market place.

  • What do I need to bring when I move in?

    Other than the items you wish to store, we require photographic identification such as a passport or drivers licence along with proof of address such as a recent utility bill or bank statement. You will also need a padlock to secure your unit which we have available to buy in our box shop. You must also have payment for your first four weeks rent, security deposit and insurance. We also take your photograph and hold on record, making verifying identity in future straight forward.

  • What happens if I change my appearance?

    It is advised that when changing your appearance (e.g. hair colour) that we update our records with a new photograph. This makes verifying your identity straight forward, especially if we have new or unfamiliar staff managing the store on the day of your visit.

  • How do I pay?

    When you first move in, we ask that you make payment by credit or debit card. For future payments we provide a direct debit mechanism for convenience.

  • How will my goods be insured?

    All customers take a contents insurance policy underwritten by the Royal & SunAlliance. You provide an outline inventory of the items you are planning to store and a policy is put in place that protects against the new for old replacement value of your goods. In recent years there has been a number of internet businesses created to provide contents cover when in Self Storage, however due to the level of cover they provide and suitability we are unable to accept.

  • Are all storage units clean, dry and secure?

    Our stores have been specifically developed for long term Self-Storage and are inspected in accordance with the Self Storage Association Guidelines. We review store standards twice daily and prohibit any items that are likely to cause mess or disruption to our facilities.

  • When can I access my unit?

    Our stores are open 7-days a week and you can access your unit at anytime and as many times as you need during our opening hours. Where essential, please speak with a Storage World Adviser who can explain how access can be provided outside our standard business opening hours.

  • How do I transport my goods to and from store?

    Self Storage means that the unit is yours to use as you wish. Some customers move in and out in single visits, whilst others visit regularly. Should you require assistance with moving items, Storage World has relationships with professional Man & Van and Van Hire Partners which we can introduce you to. Once at store, we have free to use trolleys and lifts that make travelling from our loading bays to your unit straight forward and simple.

     

  • What are your opening hours?

    We are open 7-days a week however closed on Bank Holidays. For individual opening hours, please check the pages of your preferred store.

  • What size Self Storage unit will I require?

    The items you are planning to store influences the size you need. We have a handy size guide that explains how each size code is typically used. You are best advised to speak with a Storage Adviser who will help match you to the best value space. When storing, think how your items will be arranged – for example, can chairs be stacked, furniture dismantled and boxes strong enough to hold one on top of another?

  • Who can access my Self Storage unit?

    Simply only you or anyone you register with us who is authorised. Note Police & Customs do have the power to enter storage units, subject to serving the appropriate notice and identification to the store.

  • Do you sell boxes?

    Yes we do, and lots of them and more besides (click here to view the full details of all the items we stock in our Box Shop.

  • When I move out, how do I leave the unit?

    The short answer is as you would expect to find it, ready for the next customer. You must, of course, remove your padlock and perhaps give the unit a quick sweep.

  • What if my move out plans change?

    No problem, your contract is extended and you provide us with an amended vacation date. You can stay as long as you want.

  • What if I have just paid my latest bill and what happens with my security deposit?

    When you are fully vacated, any overpaid rental and your security deposit is refunded to your bank account on the following Friday.

  • What size offices does Storage World provide?

    Our offices are typically measured in floor space, from 100 to 400sqft. A typical office workstation is normally 50sqft and includes a desk, chair and filing cabinet. So a 100sqft office is typically suitable for 2-people.

  • How much does an Office cost?

    Offices start at a rate of £50 + Vat per week, highly competitive when you consider a City Centre “hot desk” starts at £45 + Vat per week. Office customers also benefit from Free Parking and access to an upgraded superfast broadband connection for an extra fee.

  • How long are Office agreements?

    All office agreements are a fixed term of 26-weeks.

  • Who uses a Storage World Office?

    Our office customer profile is varied from online retailers, music producers, regional offices for large PLC’s, startups and businesses who require a flexible office space on a temporary to semi-permanent basis.

  • Are the Offices furnished?

    We do not provide furniture within our standard costs. However, do have partners who can engage directly with customers and match their furniture needs with a highly competitive solution. Furniture tends to be personal, hence why we work with partners to provide. You can, of course, use your own.

  • When can I access my office?

    All offices are provided with 24hr access if needed.

  • What is a Storage World Business Units, Workshop or Workspace?

    Our Business Units are typically much larger than standard Self-Storage units, both in terms of floor space and ceiling height. They are often located on the Ground Floor and near Loading Bays with access to electricity. We also provide a free parcel receive and dispatch service as well as access to trolleys, pump trucks and a fork lift truck.

  • How much does a Business Unit cost?

    Our smallest units start at £10 per week and increase in cost as the size of the unit increases. Typical business units start at around £30 per week. All rentals quoted to business customers exclude VAT. One thing to keep in mind is that as your needs change, you can transfer between units, which will increase or decrease the amount you pay.

  • What is the length of contract or notice to vacate required for a Business Unit?

    All agreements are open-ended. We simply have a notice to vacate process. Business Unit and Workshop customers are required to provide us with between four and twelve weeks notice of their planned vacation date, dependent upon unit size.

  • What size Business Units units are available?

    We have a large number of business units available. The smallest are typically 100sqft (although can be as small as 25sqft) to 2000sqft with heights of between 10 and 12ft. These units are suitable for all manner of business uses.
