1. Tell us about your business
We are a Manchester City Centre based niche Recruitment business
2. What first inspired you to operate your own business?
Simply that I was a successful recruiter and wanted a larger share of the success I created. The business I previously worked for was fairly broad, I identified a niche that I was able to develop and carried this into my own company. When recruitment struggled from 2008, I saw a greater need to specialise and fortunately that has paid off.
3. What do you enjoy most about the business sector you are involved in?
It is hard, understanding the client’s needs and the skills and driver of the prospective employee and being able to match should be a science but isn’t. However we have developed a number of processes that increase the inevitability of a good match, have well trained staff and prove more successful than most.
4. How long have you operated your business from Storage World?
We don’t actually operate from Storage World. We rent a unit there to keep the stuff we don’t need close to hand.
5. What type of Space do you operate from at Storage World
We recognised that we have a need to store documents with them, mainly CV’s as we are obliged to keep on file for 1 year. We have expanded this a little so that our unit contains cabinets of CV’s along with low use items along the lines of a stationary cupboard / store room. We also keep some furniture we don’t use there.
6. How has this helped your business?
We calculated the cost of our office space, we decided that this high cost was essential to house our people but beyond that we were potentially wasting money. Consequently it has helped us by better controlling our costs, protecting documents we are legally obliged to retain and providing a cleaner working environment for our staff.
7. How did you manage previously?
Recklessly and expensively! Like most we coped, but hadn’t realised there was another way. It was only when we were recommended to Storage World that we realised there was a smarter way forward.
8. What are the best features of Storage World for you?
Probably how clean, bright and modern the facility is and how close it is to our offices.
9. Is there anything about Storage World that you would like to change?
Not especially. Our need is fairly simple and straight forward and they more than meet our needs.
10. What are your plans for your businesses future?
Our world is certainly hotting up and our niche sector is one of those that is emerging first. We will try to develop new niches ahead of 2016 and to add greater testing to clients and candidates. This should mean we become more efficient at what we do and under pin our continued success.
11. What piece of business advice would you give to anyone reading?
Work out your big picture goal. With this fixed all the smaller decisions are easier – do they align to the goal or not. Waste less time on the stuff that isn’t on point and far more on the stuff that is.
