Greater Manchester will soon be welcoming a flock of new students in September. Of the thousands who have already secured their place at one of the city’s three main universities – the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and Salford University – many will no doubt be trying to arrange accommodation for the upcoming academic year. The question is: where is trendy to live in a metropolitan area as diverse as Manchester? Instead of leaving it to potluck, here’s some information on three places that are popular for students.
Manchester City Centre is lively throughout the week – with the main hot spots being the Northern Quarter, Spinningfields and Canal Street. Here you’ll find an array of bars and restaurants just brimming with people looking for a good time. That’s without even mentioning the museums, music venues and art galleries that are dotted around. While the more affordable flats can be rather small in size, students can always keep their most important belongings in nearby self-storage units.
The name ‘Fallowfield’ might sound familiar because The Courteeners penned a song about it back in 2008. However, ex-students will also name it as a must-live location for anyone with visions of studying in Manchester. The small suburb is home to a number of cheap and cheerful pubs that always seem to be lively. There’s also an abundance of takeaways for those late night snacks. Additionally, many of the properties are ideal for house shares.
Where do you start with Chorlton? The leafy suburb recently sprung out of nowhere as a contender for the hippest area in Manchester. Even though it can be on the pricey side of things, there’s no shortage of quirky bistros and swanky cocktail bars. There are also excellent transport links, including a tram that can take people to the City Centre in just a matter of minutes.
Manchester is a great city to study in – and an even better one to live in. If you’re worried about fitting all your possessions into your new abode at the start of term, don’t forget you can always keep them in our easy-to-access self-storage units located in Middleton and the City Centre.
